Grapevine Beetle
Description
3/4-1". Almost egg-shaped. Dull reddish brown to brownish yellow above with 2 black dots on sides of pronotum and 3 black dots on side of each elytron. Top of head, scutellum, and underside blackish, tinged with green.
Habitat
Thickets, vineyards, and woods.
Range
Eastern half of the United States.
Food
Adult feeds on leaves and fruits of wild and cultivated grapes. Larva eats decaying wood in tree stumps.
Life Cycle
Eggs are laid on wet stumps and rotten fallen trees, where larvae feed. They pupate in adjacent soil. Adults emerge May-September.
Other
Grapevine Beetles fly rapidly, usually in curves.
